We surveyed 70 adult residents of the Sasse Street neighborhood and surrounding areas about financial literacy, economic opportunity, housing, health and mental health.
We surveyed 293 Clarksdale middle- and high-school students to understand their thoughts on money, life after high school and staying in Clarksdale.
After analyzing the survey data, we convened several adult and youth focus groups to better understand the responses.
The Sasse Street Community Wealth-Building Initiative hosted a drop-in community meeting May 1 at W.A. Higgins Middle School. More than 80 students and community members reviewed the key findings from the community needs survey and focus groups. They were asked to vote for their top three priorities for the community strategic wealth plan.
The Sasse Street Community Wealth-Building Initiative is dedicated to creating opportunities for economic growth, financial empowerment, and neighborhood revitalization in the heart of Clarksdale, Miss. Through collaboration with residents, local organizations, and community leaders, we are working to create a community-driven strategic plan to help Sasse Street families build generational wealth.
